NCAA: UT's cooperation in football in 'stark contrast' to basketball's 'failures'

The University of Tennessee's self-imposed penalties and overall cooperation during its 22-month NCAA investigation went a long way toward the program escaping any further penalties from the Committee on Infractions.

NCAA won't hit UT again

More than two years since the NCAA began investigating its athletic program and nearly one year since the inquiry became public, the University of Tennessee received the closest thing to a happy ending Tuesday.

Cronan Named Interim Athletic Director

Joan Cronan, the University of Tennessee athletic department's longtime women's athletic director, has been named interim vice chancellor/director of athletics.

Cronan will fill the temporary void left by Mike Hamilton, who resigned Tuesday as the school's men's athletic director.

According to a university press release, Hamilton’s replacement will “serve as the senior administrator” of the entire athletics department, which is a significant change from the current system. Cronan will continue serving in her role as the women’s athletic director and will remain a member of the chancellor's cabinet until June 30, 2012. From July 1, 2012, until June 30, 2014, Cronan will take on a the role of an adviser to UT’s vice chancellor and chancellor.

Phillip Fulmer says he wants to 'help my university'

Phillip Fulmer won’t beg for a new job at his alma mater. But the former Tennessee football coach apparently isn’t ruling out possibly returning as the athletic director should he be asked either.

University of Tennessee Athletic Director Hamilton Resigns

KNOXVILLE - A surprise to few amid growing discontent, Mike Hamilton’s departure as University of Tennessee athletic director was announced this morning at 11 in a press conference at Teneessee’s Stokely Family Media Center in Neyland Stadium.

“I have been on an interesting journey both personally and professionally,” Hamilton said, bringing up his visit to Africa.

“I have faced challenges and frustrations in the last 18 months,” he said. “I accept responsibility. In a way this (his resignation) was inevitable.”
